"Did you ever camp out as a kid?" Janine asked us, and I scoffed. "What?"

"I was just thinking about how much I hated camping when I was a kid, that's all. So I thought it was pretty funny that you asked about it. Are you sure you're not a mind reader?"

"Are you sure that you weren't reading my mind, first, and that's why you were thinking about it?" she asked.

"I wish it were the case," Hunter interjected. "He could tell us who the best candidate for car donation is."

We all sat silently for a few moments, warming our hands with the fire. Something nagged at my thoughts, and I was waiting for it to surface. It seemed like something really basic was missing that I needed to ask, but I felt like I kept forgetting it before I had a chance to speak up. And then it struck me.

"Why don't any of us have cell phones? We could just call a cab to come get us instead of camping out in the woods like this."

They looked at each other, briefly, and then turned to me simultaneously.

"My phone broke in the RV wreck," Janine stated.
