"Do you think that we can trust this guy?" I asked Janine, quietly, when Hunter walked back into the diner to take a restroom break before we set out on the road.

She looked at her watch. "It's getting late. It will take us about an hour to get to the place that your guy was telling you about. A ride's a ride, and we've got one right now. Or would you rather wait until tomorrow, when the trail might be colder than it already is?"

"We don't know him, though. And he might think that we're crazy if we tell him the truth."

"So don't tell him anything, stupid!" she said, shoving me playfully. "Relax. It's just a ride. I'm sure that a night watchman will be there and can let us check to the tapes to see if she's come through there. Maybe even one that's seen her, which would be a really good thing for us!"

"If she went out to the labs in the first place, anyway," I said. "She might have gone somewhere else. Someplace that we'll never find her at."
