The Truth (or something like it) Part III

"I was 14 years old when gramps hired a hooker for me, told me it was time to grow up and learn what it meant to be a man. Terribly embarrassing, I feel bad for the poor lady even now...l that she had to put up with a clueless kid like me, but I charged right in like a champ. Didn’t last too long, though, and it was over fairly fast. After that, I sat and talked to the woman, whose name I never even asked. She asked me why a kid like me was doing that kind of thing, why I had some interest in it in the first place, which I thought was kind of weird since she had been more than accommodating just a few moments before that. If there's one thing that I learned growing up, it's that money talks. Still does. I mean, here I am, waiting for a paycheck from you guys, at least hopefully for enough that I can get my car replaced."

I wondered why he couldn't just make a bet and win the money to have whatever he wanted.

"So you're probably wondering why I’d ever want a paycheck from someone else to get my car replaced when I have this crazy ability to predict the outcome of events, right?" he looked right at me, and I nodded, remaining silent.

"It’s because I'd have to use money from sources outside of wagers. It’s harder than you think to maintain a low profile when you're making bets all the time. The feds aren't the only people who make note of you. All sorts of bad guys come knocking at your door at four in the morning with questions as to how you're doing it. I have a whole network of aliases and fake accounts set up that I have to work through, rotate, and close out before they become top flagged to use anymore. And that's just making enough cash to stay comfortable and isolated away from everyone!"

I guess that he had his reasons for wanting to stay away from everyone and maintain a type of anonymity, but it seemed like a lot of work. It seemed that he could set up one really big bet, or lottery win or something, and be good for the rest of his life. I didn't question it, though.
