We stood on the balcony of the hotel room, looking out onto the beach, the sun setting to our right, on the horizon. Bands of clouds streaked across the sky in brilliant shades of red and orange and yellow, and she commented on how they were slowly shifting into darker shades like purple and blue and even a little hint of green, in a band that ran across the surface of the ocean. There was a light breeze, but the air was hot all around us, even at that later hour of the afternoon.

"Yes, but we're still moving too fast to really watch anything for very long."

Couples walked together on the beach, some dedicated sunbathers still slept on the sand, towels spread out beneath them. A parent was picking their kid up by the arm to help it dodge the incoming surf, which crashed in frothy waves all up and down the shore. It was dark enough that ships lights could be seen blinking out in the ocean, and a few of the brighter stars were showing up above us.
