Looking & Leaping.

or: The ground, so far below you.

01. I had a lot of things to think about, but I wanted more answers.

02. "Keep talking," I ordered, being perhaps a little too demanding for the situation.

03. "As I was explaining to you, the attempt on your life was a failure. Originally, people were sent to take you out of the equation long before you had started this futile adventure of yours, but you managed to postpone their efforts since you were not in your apartment at the time that they searched it for any information. You probably didn’t notice that they’d removed all of the evidence of her existence there, anyway. Our people do a really good job. Unfortunately, the team assigned to you was careless with their equipment, and the explosives designed to completely destroy your house did not detonate. They had to be removed at a later date."

04. "Explosives?" I asked, incredulous. This couldn’t be the truth.

05. "If you were to return to your apartment now, you’d find it completely bare. We are erasing your life, now. The company doesn’t like liabilities. We know when someone is more useful to us alive than dead, though, and that’s the only thing you’ve got in favor of keeping you breathing. Remember that." He stared at me with his cold eyes, completely devoid of emotion. Was he waiting on a reaction? What did he expect me to do?

06. "The guys in the car. Back when we crashed the RV. Were they your people?" I asked him.

07. "Contracted labor. A non-issue." He answered.

08. "What do you want from me?" I got to the point.

09. He didn’t answer for a moment. He just continued to stare at me, as if he could see straight through me. For all I know, he could.

10. "Would you like a cup of coffee?" He asked, strangely.

I kept searching, but the answers eluded me.
