He snapped his fingers.

“Pay attention to me,” he demanded. I returned my focus to him, as he ordered. He loosened his tie.

“Most people would say that you’re insane,” he informed me. “To convince your friend Janine that your cause is worthwhile is one thing, but involvement of the man who calls himself Hunter was quite a task. He needed a place to belong to, didn’t he?”

Once again, I chose not to answer. Hunter and Janine had helped me so far for their own reasons; I imagined that he already had drawn his own conclusions about them, just as he had done with me. I waited, because I wanted to know what he knew. I wanted to see the cards that he held before deciding how I'd play the next hand
