<sup>"Your curiosity isn't out of line, anyway," I said to him, releasing his hand. "And I feel really awful about what's happened to your truck."

He feigned a lack of concern. "It's not that big of a deal, you know. I already wanted to get rid of it as soon as I bought it. And, as you now know, whoever it was that was chasing after us might have only been after me."

I wondered why whoever it was had abandoned their efforts after we'd gone over the side of the road into the ravine and if they'd be back. I mentioned as much to Hunter.

"Do you think you're getting to close to uncovering the truth about what this company is doing?" He asked.

"I don't know what I'm close to and what I'm lost in left field with, to tell you the truth," I confessed. "It's not like any of the leads that I've been given have been really fruitful, though I've learned quite a few things about the dubious nature of Synchro Systems."

Hunter yawned and stretched.

"The deeper that I dig, the more bizarre the information is," I concluded.</sup>
